Summary
- I am an experienced, fellowship-trained Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathologist. Currently, I am the sole proprietor of “Expert Pathology Consultation Services”, in which I provide Locum Tenens/Per Diem coverage nationwide, Expert Witness services in medico-legal malpractice cases, and second dx opinions on mainly GI and Liver Pathology cases to Pathologists and Gastroenterologists. I am actively licensed in 9 states. Currently, I am in a joint venture with North Shore-LIJ Core Lab in NY, signing-out GI tract, Liver, and Pancreas biopsies, on a Per Diem basis.
Until 04/2012, I worked for Miraca Life Sciences (formerly known as Pathology Partners Inc., Caris Diagnostics, and Caris Life Sciences) for 13 years. It was created by venture capitalists as a “GI Pathology Center of Excellence” in Irving, TX in 2000, and I was the first GI Pathologist hired by the lab. We started with a single GI account processing ~ 20 cases/day. During the first couple of years of the lab operation, I would gross, obtain photomicrographs, and transcribed my own cases. I also created the original GI template system that consisted of codes for headers, diagnostic lines, and comments.
By the time I left the company on 05/12, it had grown to 3 surgical pathology labs (Irving, Phoenix, Boston) processing ~ 5,500 cases/day (~11,000 jars-specimens/day), and had numerous PA’s that would gross the specimens and obtain the photomicrographs, as well as numerous transcriptionists. We started doing only Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology, but then developed other subspecialties such as Dermatopathology, Hematopathology, Cytopathology, Uropathology, Molecular Pathology, and General Pathology. The business came from clinicians from 38 states that sent their ambulatory biopsy specimens, mostly by Gastroenterologists (60%) and Dermatologists (30%)
