- Carlos A Gongora MD is Cardiologist, Cardio-Oncologist, Cardiac Imager, and researcher at Montefiore Medical Center. He is a physician educated in Mexico and a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla (BUAP). He completed two years of cardiovascular research at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation, where he published and presented his research in various international conferences and received an award of excellence for his research. He finished his Cardiology fellowship in June of 2020 at Mount Sinai West and Morningside Hospitals. During his residency and fellowship, he continued with his cardiovascular research and has worked in a public health program with minorities in the Bronx. In 2015 he joined the National Hispanic Medical Association leadership to help improve health in Latino communities. Also, during his cardiology fellowship he developed, presented and published different cardiovascular research projects. Due to his hard work, he was chosen as Chief Cardiology Fellow. During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City, Dr. Gongora took care of critically ill COVID-19 patients with cardiac comorbidities in the Cardiac Care Unit. He participated in international conferences to discuss the latest observations, advances and therapies in hospitalized patients with COVID-19. He lastly finished an Advanced Cardiac Imaging and Cardio-Oncology Fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Also he completed courses in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health. hile in Boston, Dr. Gongora has been involved in projects focusing on cardiotoxicity associated with immune therapies and anthracyclines among patients with cancer. Additionally, he has worked on projects focusing on medical therapy for patients with COVID-19 and their cardiac involvement. Lastly, he has helped promote COVID-19 vaccine education within the Latino community of Massachusetts.
