Summary

  • Dr. Carlo "Rob" Bernardino joined Vantage Eye in 2010 bringing oculoplastics expertise to the Monterey area. After medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, residency, and chief residency in ophthalmology at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, he completed a 2-year fellowship in oculoplastics, ocular oncology and ophthalmic pathology at Harvard's Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.

    After fellowship, Dr. Bernardino was an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Emory University in Atlanta from 2003 to 2007. Before coming to Vantage Eye, he was Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, Residency Program Director, and the Director of the Oculoplastics and Orbital Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine from 2007 to 2010. While at Yale, he was also voted 'Top-Doctor' for the New York Metro area for 2009 and 2010.

    His clinical practice of oculoplastics includes reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the eyelids and orbit. He has special interests in eyelid and orbital tumors, tear drain (lacrimal) dysfunction, thyroid eye disease, and rehabilitation after loss of an eye.

    He has authored multiple scientific papers, book chapters in oculoplastics, and the textbook, Yale Guide to Ophthalmic Surgery. He also served as scientific reviewer for multiple journals including Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He also served as volunteer faculty for ORBIS, The Flying Eye Hospital.

    He is an active fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.

    Dr. Bernardino enjoys exploring new restaurants, and driving the countryside with his wife and two sons.
