Overview of Dr. Sangeorzan

Dr. Sangeorzan is a University of Washington Professor of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and an internationally recognized expert in diagnosis and treatment of injuries and disorders of the foot and ankle.

He has been recognized as a Best Doctors in America --one of less than 1% who have been so recognized for more than 15 years-- and selected as Orthopedics' 25 Most Influential Foot and Ankle Surgeons in North America. His work has been recognized by peers with the Kappa Delta Awards/OREF Clinical Research Award, the Paul B. Magnusson Award for Outstanding Achievement in Research, the American Military Surgeons of the US Sustaining Membership award, the Mann Award for Foot and Ankle research and the UW Department of Orthopedics Resident Teaching award.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Sangeorzan is a Deputy Editor of the Journal of bone and Joint Surgery and the Director of the VA Center for Limb Loss and Mobility, CLiMB. The focus of the research center is improved understanding and treatments for injuries and illnesses that lead to limb loss or impaired mobility.

Dr. Sangeorzan’s clinical care is focused on injuries of the foot and ankle from sports or major trauma, deformities of the foot and ankle, arthritis and disorders of the ligaments and tendons. His Research is funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH), the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense.

He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). He is a member and Past president of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) and a deputy editor of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. In addition, he is a member of the Orthopedic Research Society, the Orthopedic Trauma Association (OTA), the Washington State Orthopedic Association and the American Orthopedic Association (AOA), an invitation-only leadership organization for orthopedics
