Summary
- Briony K. Varda, M.D., M.P.H., is an attending urologist in the Division of Urology at Children’s National Hospital. Her subspecialty interests include: the care of patients with spina bifida and the neurogenic bladder, care of patients with genitourinary anomalies associated with colorectal and pelvic floor malformations, bladder exstrophy and epispadias, cloacal exstrophy, posterior urethral valves, vesicoureteral reflux and urinary tract infections, megaureter and congenital ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Dr. Varda is fellowship trained in the use of both open and robotic techniques for reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Varda completed her residency in the Harvard-Longwood Program in Urology and her fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. She spent additional time after her fellowship focusing on training for the care of patients with congenital anomalies requiring complex surgical reconstruction.
During this time, she was also a research fellow in the Harvard-wide Health Services Research Fellowship program and completed her Masters in Public Health at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. As a Health Services researcher, she has authored or co-authored numerous journal articles and chapters on a variety of topics related to how patients access and utilize surgical care, as well as assessing the value of care received. Her research currently focuses on investigating health disparities among patients with chronic genitourinary conditions and preventing emergency visits.
As a physician, Dr. Varda is passionate about providing excellent care to all patients. As a mother herself, she believes connecting with families is an integral part of doing this.
