Summary
- Dr. Brian Wu is a board-certified adult psychiatrist who has a special interest in helping people become unstuck from symptoms that may block living in full alignment with their values or aspirations. He works with patients who have various psychiatric illnesses. His approach to treatment is influenced by principles from Intense Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which combine using emotions to help drive action towards values. Dr. Wu has been licensed to practice in the State of California since 2018.
Dr. Wu graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Neurobiology. He then attended the M.D./Ph.D. Program at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, earning his Ph.D. in Integrative Biology and Disease in 2015 and his M.D. in 2017. He completed his residency training in the psychiatry program at the LAC+USC Medical Center. As a Provost’s Postdoctoral Scholar, he obtained a Master of Science in Narrative Medicine (M.N.M.) at Keck School of Medicine of USC during his last year of residency.
Dr. Wu performed several clinical trials in rehabilitation medicine and preventive care. He has authored over 40 publications (among which, 12 first-author publications and two book chapters), presented over 10 oral presentations, and over 15 poster presentations at regional and national meetings. He received over $150,000 in prestigious grants and scholarships including over 20 awards for outstanding performance and professionalism. He recently received Outstanding Healthcare Innovator and Behavioral Health Future Leader Awards in 2024.
