  • Brian Olshansky, MD, FACC, FAHA, FHRS, a board certified clinical cardiac EP, is a tenured Professor Emeritus of Medicine at University of Iowa. Dr. Olshansky graduated from Carleton, completed his MD at University of Arizona, residency training in Internal Medicine at Bellevue/NYU, Cardiology Fellowship training at University of Iowa, and EP training at University of Alabama-Birmingham. He has been a faculty member at the University of Alabama, Case Western Reserve University and Loyola University before returning to The University of Iowa and has directed EP laboratories and training programs at Loyola University Medical Center and University of Iowa. Dr. Olshansky has expertise in the evaluation and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias using state-of-the-art techniques including: device implantation (pacemakers and defibrillators) and catheter ablation techniques, including treatment of atrial fibrillation and VT. He has expertise in issues regarding autonomic control of the heart. He is recognized for his work regarding the assessment of arrhythmia mechanisms, multicenter randomized clinical trials, treatment of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, and the management of syncope. Dr. Olshansky is known for his diversity of interests ranging from the technological and mechanistic aspects of cardiac electrophysiology to holistic issues regarding medical care and the doctor-patient relationship. Dr. Olshansky’s research has focused on the treatment for and mechanism of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias but his research interests are extensive. He has been involved in numerous clinical trials and has published over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts (a total of over 400 manuscripts, including non-peer-reviewed manuscripts, reviews, e-publications, slide series and editorials), over 200 abstracts, 45 chapters and three books: Syncope-Diagnosis and Management (and a second edition) and Arrhythmia Essentials.
