- Dr. Mazzarella grew up in Austin and completed his undergraduate degree at The University of Texas. While completing his degree, Dr. Mazzarella worked part-time as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. He then attended The University of Texas Health Science Center and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree.
Dr. Mazzarella completed his surgery internship at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, where he was trained in critical care, vascular surgery, oncologic surgery, and many other surgical specialties. He remained in Dallas to complete his urology training at the renowned University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Mazzarella has trained in general urology as well as various specialties including robotic surgery, laparoscopy, advanced endo-urology, reconstructive, prosthetics, and uro-oncology. Dr. Mazzarella is a member of the American Urologic Association and has attended or presented at multiple conferences. He holds certifications from the Southwestern Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery for the Robotic Surgery Program as well as the Laparoscopic Surgery Program. Dr. Mazzarella practices in all areas of urology including treatment of kidney stones and enlarged prostates as well as prostate and kidney cancer. His particular specialization within the group involves major oncology cases including robotic prostatectomy and partial nephrectomy as well as open radical cancer surgery. Dr. Mazzarella is a leading surgeon in the new UroLift procedure that treats men for BPH symptoms with a minimally invasive approach.
