Summary

  • During my residency training at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital/Georgetown University, I had extensive training in all aspects of rehabilitation medicine with a special focus on cancer rehabilitation. I also had a great deal of experience participating in research at the NIH and became involved in advocacy for rehabilitation services for cancer patients and have helped lead several workshops on cancer rehabilitation at national conferences.

I expanded on this work during my fellowship in cancer rehabilitation at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. While there, I provided several lectures to colleagues, residents and patients on the topics of shoulder dysfunction, post-mastectomy pain and disability in patients with breast cancer. I am very passionate about expanding access to rehabilitation services to all patients with cancer to help them return to a life of normalcy after cancer.

I am currently working as an assistant professor at UT Health San Antonio Mays Cancer Center building a comprehensive cancer rehabilitation program to serve the needs of cancer patients in South Texas. The clinic is rapidly growing and we are excited for what the future holds as we expand our services to address prehabilitation for those patients pending major surgeries, chemotherapy and/or bone marrow stem cell transplants, lymphedema screening and early detection programs for rapid treatment, and interventional chemodenervation procedures for patients with radiation fibrosis syndrome restricting their range of motion and impairing their quality of life.
