  • Dr. Brendan O'Connell is a Neurotologist at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He is board certified in Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery and completed further fellowship training in Otology/Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery at the Department of Otolaryngology, Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center.


    Dr. O'Connell's research interests include the preservation of acoustic hearing after cochlear implantation and the role of electrocochleography to minimize trauma during cochlear implant surgery. This expertise allows for individualized cochlear implant surgical planning and maximizes post-operative outcomes.


    Dr. O’Connell has published over 50 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and has presented both nationally and internationally on cochlear implantation and skull base surgery. He has received grants from the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and the American Academy of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery. During fellowship, he was the recipient of research awards from the American Otologic and Neurotologic Societies.


    He was recently elected to the editorial board of Otolaryngology- Case Reports, and serves as a reviewer for other journals in this field.
