- I am an academic heart failure and cardiac transplantation cardiologist, with active participation in health care administration, leadership, patient care, research and education. I serve as the Medicine Department Chair (Medical Care Line Executive at the DeBakey VA Medical Center; W.A. “Tex” and Deborah Moncrief, Jr., Chair; Mary and Gordon Cain Chair and Professor of Medicine; and Vice-Chair of Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine; Director of the Winters Center for Heart Failure and Associate Director of Cardiovascular Research Institute at Baylor College of Medicine. I am the President of the Heart Failure Society of America, and Chair of the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology Task Force for Data Standards. I currently serve as a member of the ACC/AHA Task Force for Performance Metrics, and have served as the immediate past Chair of Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Council of the American College of Cardiology. I am a Senior Associate Editor for Circulation; and Heart Failure Section Editor for the Journal of American College of Cardiology. I actively participate in clinical and translational research, national and international scientific sessions in the field of heart failure; teaches medical students, residents, fellows at bedside; mentor trainees in clinical and translational research. I am board certified in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation, cardiovascular disease and internal medicine.
