Summary
- My name is Bilal Farhat Ali. I am currently doing my research under my PI at Mayo Clinic Hospitals, I balance clinical and research responsibilities. I visit St. Mary’s Hospital to take patient histories, engage with patients and develop my communication skills. On the research side, I work in a nephrology lab, preparing rats for experiments in animal room and then administering drug treatments to rats through rectal route in laboratory and collecting blood and serum samples to assess pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Additionally, I co-author review papers and participate in weekly discussions, where I provide valuable insights on research progress. My collaborative efforts with post-doc researchers enhance teamwork, solidifying my reputation for reliability and expertise.
This experience is deeply meaningful to me because working at Mayo Clinic has taught me invaluable patient interaction skills, crucial for understanding patient needs. The research side highlights the importance of scientific inquiry, showing how laboratory work can lead to better patient care.
I did my graduation from Akhtar Saeed Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan. After doing internships in different well-renowned Hospitals in Lahore e.g, Jinnah Hospital, Farooq Hospital westwood branch, Akhtar Saeed Trust Hospital and Liaqat Hospital, I completed clinical experience in the United States at Houston Methodist West Hospital, Integrative Primary Care, NYCCC, and Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. During this period, I successfully passed the USMLE Step 3 exam. Additionally, I served as a Patient Recruiter in a CTN Clinical Trial Network.
In addition to my current role, I have completed an observership with Dr. Ajay Pillai, MD, a pulmonary disease specialist in Darby, Philadelphia in September. I learned how he maintained a calm and relaxed environment while taking extensive patient histories, and how he used the C-PAP machine to treat obstructive sleep apnea.
