He graduated from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in 1976 and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Rochester from 1976 to 1979. He then completed fellowship training in medical-psychiatric liaison medicine at the University of Rochester in 1981. He was a full time faculty member in the U of R family medicine residency training program from 1982-1986, then practiced geriatric medicine from 1986-2015 at the Jewish Home of Rochester, including long term care, hospital, and home visit care of elders. He served as Medical Director there from 1986-2007. He is retired from active clinical practice but continues to assist with medical education with U of R geriatric fellows.
