- Dr. Bernard Leo Remakus is an internal medicine specialist based in Hallstead, PA. since 1981. He completed his medical education at the Temple University School of Medicine in 1978, followed by a residency in internal medicine at Abington Memorial Hospital and certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine. With a long-standing career, he has served as an admitting physician, emergency medicine director, and medical staff president at Barnes-Kasson County Hospital from 1981 through 2024, and featured columnist and editorial consultant at Internal Medicine World Report from 1991 through 2002. He has also served as an assistant professor of the Health Science Center of the State University of New York and the Temple University School of Medicine, a medical examiner, clinical researcher, professional consultant, and high school baseball coach. Currently, he continues to practice outpatient medicine and write, serve as the publisher of 221 East Publishing, and work as professional speaker. An award-winning author, his publications include five novels, three works of medical non-fiction, one screenplay, and one book of poetry. His medical and literary careers have been honored by numerous awards and citations, including the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Remakus and his wife, Charlotte, have been married 50 years. Their three children, Christopher, Alexandra, and Matthew, are all medical doctors who graduated from the Temple University School of Medicine.
