- Dr. Berenice Perez currently serves as the Medical Director for the Highland Hospital Emergency Faculty and is core faculty in the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. She is a graduate of the California Healthcare Leadership Fellowship and has completed AHS Lean Executive Certification Training. The list of committees she has served/serves on as well as pilots and projects she has spearheaded within AHS is expansive – frequently across disciplines and departments. Dr. Perez has the impressive ability to bring together multiple stakeholders often with competing goals and interests to find common ground and advance outstanding patient care – always with humility, respect, and inclusion. Dr. Perez remains committed to the LatinX community as evidenced through her extensive work with mentoring pipeline students from underrepresented in medicine (UIM) groups to television appearances on Univision, advocacy work for the American Heart Association, to research on diversifying the physician workforce and most recently the impact of COVID on our community here in Oakland. She currently serves on the board of East Bay Medical Group, Alameda County Health Coach Program Committee, Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Equity and Inclusion Committee, and the Alameda Health System’s newly formed HEDI Task Force. Dr. Perez has served as a role model for equity and inclusion to our residents and faculty, a champion for fostering the careers of future Black and Brown healthcare providers, and consummate clinician and advocate for her patients here in Oakland and the East Bay.
