Summary
- Dr. Al-Khafaji is dual board-certified in Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology. He completed his residency in Anatomic Pathology at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio plus two subsequent one-year ACGME accredited fellowships at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, one in Oncologic Surgical Pathology and the other in Cytopathology. Currently, as a senior staff pathologist at St. John Hospital & Medical Center his area of expertise and special interests are Cytopathology, to include performance of FNA, and ROSE interpretation. Within the area of surgical pathology his current interests and area of expertise involve Genitourinary, Gynecological and Head and Neck Pathology. Prior to joining St. John Hospital Medical Center, Dr. AL-Khafaji, was a staff pathologist and Assistant Professor of pathology at The University of Michigan. Currently, he holds the position of adjunct Associate Professor at Wayne State University, School of Medicine, Detroit, MI. Dr Al-Khafaji served as the Director of Pathology of the residency program at St. John Hospital Medical Center, Detroit, MI between 2003 to 2015. At which time he oversaw the administrative and educational training aspects of the pathology residency program through three accreditation cycles, ultimately achieving full accreditation for a five-year period, a perfect pass rate on the AP boards, and a near perfect pass rate on the CP boards. Dr. Al-Khafaji also holds a master's degree in Health Profession Education (MHPE), from Keele University (UK) with emphasis on assessment and evaluation
