- Bang H. Hoang, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in musculoskeletal tumor surgery. Dr. Hoang is an expert in benign and malignant tumors, metastatic bone disease, pathologic fractures, complex bone and joint reconstruction with large-segment prosthesis and allograft, tumors of the pelvis and sacrum, and investigational therapy for bone and soft tissue sarcoma. He is the Co-Director of the Orthopaedic Oncology Division at Montefiore and holds the Arnold S. and Madaleine Penner Endowed Chair in Orthopaedic Oncology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
After graduating cum laude with a bachelor of science from University of California, Irvine, Dr. Hoang received his M.D. from UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles, CA. During medical school, he was selected by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to receive training at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Case Western Reserve and went on to pursue orthopaedic oncology fellowship training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
A prolific researcher and clinician, Dr. Hoang has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and served on many national scientific and educational committees. He is an NIH-funded clinician and has led or participated in dozens of clinical, animal, and basic science studies aimed at evaluating novel treatments and surgical approaches for patients with bone and soft tissue sarcoma. In 2007, he was selected by the American Orthopaedic Association for the prestigious North American Traveling Fellowship. He has been a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons since 2004 and was elected into the American Orthopaedic Association in 2009. In 2011, he was awarded the OREF Career Development Award and the Kappa Delta Anne Doner Vaughn Award by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons for his works in pediatric bone cancer.
