- Dr. Avak Albert Howsepian is a psychiatrist in Fresno, CA who was formerly affiliated with Veterans Affairs Central California Health Care System from which he retired in March 2023, where he was a Staff Psychiatrist and Director of Electroconvulsive Therapy for approximately 25 years. He is currently a full time (primarily) Forensic Psychiatry consultant in private practice ('Comprehensive Psychiatry Consultation Services') and a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco's Fresno Medical Education Program (UCSF-FMEP) in which he continues to supervise Psychiatry residents and teach various didactics courses (Psychopharmacology, Electroconvulsive Therapy, Paraphilias and Perversions, Sexual Dysfunction, Psychiatry and Religion, Psychiatric Ethics, and Forensic Psychiatry). He also teaches Psychopharmacology at California State University Fresno and has taught various Philosophy courses at Fresno Pacific University. He received his M. D. from University of California, Davis, School of Medicine and his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame. His residency in Psychiatry was completed at the UCSF-FMEP. He has approximately 60 publications in Psychiatry, Neurology, and Philosophy.
