- Dr. Abdo is professor of medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He is a board certified internal medicine doctor and a fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Abdo holds the position of the chief for the hospital medicine section at the Jackson Veterans Affairs Hospital and he is a member of the national VA hospitalist field advisory committee. He is the vice chair of the research and development committee at the Jackson Veterans Affairs Hospital and also serves as a core faculty at the Department of Medicine at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. With many years of clinical experience at the inpatient settings, Dr. Abdo has led several quality improvement and system redesign projects looking into ways to improve healthcare delivery and clinical outcomes during and post hospitalizations. His research interests include acute care management of heart failure, kidney diseases and hypertension with special focus on the elderly population. He has authored and coauthored several peer-reviewed articles and has published and presented more than 30 abstracts. Dr. Abdo is a board member and reviewer for several medical journals and the recipient of multiple awards during his medical career at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
