- Dr. Arthur James is a retired Obstetrical and Gynecologic specialist based in Columbus, OH. He graduated from Stanford University (19740), Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine (1979) and completed Pediatrics residency at Nationwide Children's Hospital/Ohio State University and the University of Texas @ Houston (Hermann Hospital) and Ob/Gyn residency (University of Texas @ Houston ). He is a former member of the Health and Human Services Secretary's Advisory Committee on Infant Mortality (SACIM) and former Executive Director of the Ohio State University Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity. His research has focused on factors affecting Black infant mortality, and the racial disparity in birth outcomes with publications in journals like Plos One and SSM - Population Health. Dr. James is recognized with awards including the CMS Meaningful Use Stage 1 Certification and he was the first African American male to receive APHA's Martha May Eliot award (2022) He is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
