Summary
- Dr. Abright received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas in Austin, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He received his postgraduate medical education at St. Vincent’s Hospital Manhattan, where he completed his internship and at Cornell University Medical Center New York Hospital Payne-Whitney Clinic, where he completed his residency in psychiatry and fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
He is a past President of the New York Council on Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, a Life Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a 30-year Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and a member of the American Association of Directors of Psychiatry Residency Training Programs (AADPRT), the American Association of Directors of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AADCAP) and the AACAP Committee on Quality Issues. He has served as an Examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for board examinations in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry and as a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and is the author or co-author of multiple abstracts, papers, book chapters, poster presentations at national meetings, and book reviews (many of which were written in collaboration with fellows, residents and medical students). His presentations and publications have addressed a broad range of topics in child and adolescent psychiatry with special focus on depression and bipolar disorder and responses to stress and trauma. His awards include the Nancy C.A. Roeske Certificate for Excellence in Medical Student Teaching from the American Psychiatric Assn.
