Summary
- I graduated from Columbia Phi Beta Kappa majoring in Art History and Zoology. I was recruited into the first MD-PhD program at Downstate Medical Center in 1964. I spent two years conducting research in neurochemistry studying the effects of LSD on thyroid function in rats. I graduated Downstate with an MD degree in 1969.
I interned in Internal Medicine at the Long Island College Hospital through June of 1970. I completed a psychiatric residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1970 - 1973.
I worked as an Attending Psychiatrist at the East Orange VA Hospital helping to set up their outpatient psychiatry service treating returning Vietnam veterans.
In 1976 I became a consulting psychiatrist at Long Island College Hospital (LICH) attending oncology, nephrology and general med/surg patients.
In 1982 I founded and became Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at LICH overseeing inpatient, partial hospital, outpatient, consultation/liaison, and emergency services. I also was responsible for an inpatient detox and outpatient rehabilitation service for substance abuse patients and I oversaw contracted servces to nursing homes and homes for adults.
My private practice, Brooklyn Psychiatric Associates founded in 1973 eventually employed 7 psychiatrists (PT) as well as NPs, PhD psychologists and MSWs. In 2016 when I dissolved the group we were treating over 5,000 patients with over 15,000 visits per year.
Since then I have been performing telepsychiatry and consulting on special projects. I am Board Certified in both Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry. I am certified to use buprenorphine and have much experience with treatment of addictions.
