Summary
- Arno J. Mundt, MD, is a board-certified radiation oncologist whose expertise is in gynecologic and prostate cancers using a variety of novel treatment modalities, including image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).
He is the founding chair of the Department of Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences at UC San Diego School of Medicine and senior deputy director of UC San Diego Health’s Moores Cancer Center, the region’s only comprehensive cancer center recognized by the National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Mundt has won numerous awards for patient care, including being named one of America’s top doctors for cancer care and one of San Diego’s top doctors, multiple times. He is internationally recognized in the field for his contributions to developing new radiation techniques to improve cancer treatment and has authored or co-authored more than 180 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on advanced radiation oncology techniques.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health in 2006, Dr. Mundt was an associate professor in the Department of Radiation and Cellular Oncology at University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine and an invited visiting professor at numerous prestigious medical centers, including the Mayo Clinic, Washington University School of Medicine, and Stanford University.
Dr. Mundt completed fellowship and residency training in radiation oncology at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine. He also completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at George Washington University School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree at University of Michigan Medical School. He is board certified in radiation oncology.
