• In his former position as Chair of an academic surgical department, Dr. Antonio E. Alfonso has mentored over 300 surgical residency graduates over the past 35 years and a significant number have either become academic surgical chairs themselves or have attained academic leadership positions across the country. As an established academician, clinical surgeon and educator, he has been recruited to Northwell Health in 2017 from the State University of NY Downstate Medical center where he had served as Distinguished Teaching Professor and Clarence & Mary Dennis Chair of the Surgery Department . He has served in many national and leadership positions including Governor at Large of the American College of Surgeons and President of the New York Surgical Society, New York Cancer Society, New York Head and Neck Society, Brooklyn Surgical Society and the Tri-Borough Directors of Surgery Association,
  He currently serves as the Director of Surgical Education at Northwell Health, & Vice Chair and Professor of Surgery at the Zucker School of Medicine, Hofstra/Northwell.
  His clinical focus is in Head and Neck Endocrine Surgery.
