Summary

  • I am an internist and board-certified Occupational and Environmental Medicine specialist with a Masters in Public Health from Columbia University, completing Internal Medicine residency training at State University of NY, and post-graduate fellowship at Yale University. My areas of work include tobacco control, noncommunicable disease prevention and control, health promotion and occupational and environmental medicine.

I was Technical Officer, and eventually Regional Adviser, for the Tobacco Free Initiative (TFI) at the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office. Currently, I serve as the Guam Department of Public Health’s Tobacco Control Consultant, and chair the State Epidemiological Workgroup of Guam. I am adjunct research faculty at the University of Guam’s Cancer Research Center, a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Hawai’I’s Cancer Research Center and guest faculty for the Johns Hopkins School of Public Healths's Institute for Global Tobacco Control.

My work focuses on community mobilization and advocacy for evidence-based health policies in Guam and in the surrounding islands of Micronesia. I promote the use of local data and community-based participatory research to guide the development of rational laws and policies that aim to promote population health and to reduce health disparities among Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. I also do technical writing and strategic planning facilitation to empower communities for better health.
