- Ankur M. Shah, MD is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist and retina specialist. He obtained his medical degree at Northwestern University in Chicago, where he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of California in San Diego, where he served as Chief Resident. He then returned to Chicago where he completed a Medical Retina fellowship at Northwestern University Medical Center, followed by a Surgical Retina fellowship at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Dr. Shah specializes in treatment of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusive disease, and ocular inflammation using the most effective pharmacologic and laser therapies. He provides surgical management of severe diabetic eye disease, retinal detachment, epiretinal membranes, and macular holes. Dr. Shah understands that these debilitating conditions can have a significant impact on one’s quality of life. Employing the latest advances in medical therapies and surgical techniques and technology, strong training, and genuine care, Dr. Shah strives to preserve and improve the vision of his patients so they can maintain their independence and enjoy their loved ones and the world around them.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Dr. Shah enjoys spending time with his twin son and daughter. He enjoys travel, music, sports, and the great outdoors (weather permitting).
