- Dr. Anil K Rustgi is a gastroenterologist in New York, NY and is affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He is the Director of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center-HICCC (NCI designated). He received his undergraduate degree from Yale University (Summa cum laude), medical degree from Duke University (AOA), internship/residency from Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School, and GI fellowship from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)/Harvard Medical School. He rose to Associate Professor of Medicine at MGH/Harvard, prior to recruitment as Chief of GI and T. Grier Miller Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania from 1998-2018. Since 2019, he is now Director of HICCC, Associate Dean of Oncology and Chief of Cancer Services at Columbia/NYP. He is past President of the American Gastroenterology Association and American Pancreas Association, as well as past Editor-in-Chief of Gastroenterology (the leading journal of the specialty). He has been elected to the ASCI, AAP, AAAS, American Cancer Society Professorship and the National Academy of Medicine. He has received multiple mentorship awards. He has received the AGA's Friedenwald medal and the Beaumont Prize. As a physician-scientist, he is funded through the NIH, ACS and SU2C. He has published more than 400 publications that are highly cited, and he has lectured at other universities and in national/international meetings. He practices hereditary GI cancer genetics.
