- Angela Edwards MD is Associate Professor and Section Head of Perioperative Medicine for the Department of Anesthesiology at Wake Forest School of Medicine, Wake Forest Baptist Health. Over the course of nearly two decades as a practicing anesthesiologist and preoperative medicine specialist, Dr. Edwards has been a champion of enhanced recovery programs while improving patient safety through cost effective preoperative medical optimization and management. While serving as medical director of preoperative assessment and anesthesia champion for enhanced recovery after surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Health, Dr Edwards developed innovative ways to implement surgical care pathways and redesign preoperative programs to improve patient safety and the patient experience.
Dr. Edwards currently serves as Vice Chair of the ASA perioperative medical education committee (American Society of Anesthesiologists) and is a member of the abstract review subcommittee. She serves on several review, editorial boards and education committees for the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS), Society for Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement (SPAQI) and Wake Forest School of Medicine. She currently serves as Immediate Past President for the Society for Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement, Director of the annual Perioperative Medicine Summit, and Director of WakeUPdates in Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care for the Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Edwards serves on the editorial board for Evidence-Based Perioperative Medicine (EBPOM), A&A Case reports and is actively involved in faculty development through Wake Forest School of medicine.
Dr. Edwards has held leadership roles at the national and international level, designing educational curricula for medical conferences while serving as a visiting professor for academic institutions throughout the United States.
