Summary
- I am an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Michigan as well as a Staff Physician at the Ann Arbor VA Healthcare System. I attended Harvard College for my undergraduate studies, the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD program in New York, an internal medicine residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and then a clinical and research fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
My laboratory research focuses on the cell biology of RNA virus infection, originally hepatitis C virus and more recently dengue, Zika, and SARS-CoV-2. I am currently serving my second term on the AASLD Research Awards Committee and am an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
My clinical practice is primarily at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, where I direct the multidisciplinary liver tumor board and care for veterans with a variety of liver disorders or with primary liver cancer.
From a teaching standpoint, I am the Assistant Dean for Early Medical Education, overseeing University of Michigan Medical School's preclinical curriculum. I have won multiple institutional awards for undergraduate and graduate medical education.
