Summary
- I am a psychiatry resident currently practicing in Long Island, NY. I am also licensed in the state of California.
I practice both medication management and psychotherapy in the field of mental health, working with a broad range of psychopathology and severity. My goal is to specialize in LGBTQ+ Psychiatry, a relatively unexplored field of psychiatry. I am particularly interested in a holistic biopsychosocial approach to the patient, relying on a broad array of knowledge, and I have a passion for educating and empowering patients. I am well-known among my attendings for my medical and psychiatric knowledge, ranking among that of the top psychiatry residents nationally on Psychiatry Residency Inservice Training Exams.
Originally a student of the humanities, I bring multiple strengths to my work in psychiatry. Because of my passion for learning, my advisor in college nicknamed me Der Neugierige – the inquisitive one. As both a scientist and a student of literature, I learned to think critically. As a gay man in America, I learned early on to question the status quo with courage and heart, leading me to be known as a “thought leader” and a “change maker.” This has put me on the front lines of advocacy and research in multiple fields. For instance, as president of University of California, Irvine School of Medicine’s LGBTQIA Health and Psychiatry interest groups, I became well-known among my classmates as a champion of queer and mental health, and received UCI’s nomination for a national scholarship honoring my healthcare and curriculum advocacy. Similarly, growing up different taught me to have great compassion for the marginalized and misunderstood. As such, my previous employment in caring for those with dementia and autism has brought me great joy and fulfillment.
