Dr. Amir Jaffer is the Regional Chief Medical Officer for SSM Health’s St. Louis region, dedicated to clinical excellence, patient safety, and operational efficiency. He collaborates with ministry CMOs and multidisciplinary teams to improve key metrics such as mortality, readmissions, and surgical site infections. Leveraging behavioral economics and technology, he advances value-based care while standardizing acute care delivery in Hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Critical Care. His work also optimizes financial outcomes by enhancing clinical documentation and reducing length of stay.
Previously, Dr. Jaffer held leadership roles at Cleveland Clinic, University of Miami, Rush University Medical Center, and New York-Presbyterian Queens, where he led initiatives that elevated its CMS Star rating from one to five stars by reducing mortality and hospital-acquired conditions. Recognized for his leadership, he received the SPAQI Lifetime Achievement Award (2023) and the Society of Hospital Medicine’s Excellence in Teaching Award (2010).
Dr. Jaffer earned his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Yale New Haven Hospital. He also holds an MBA in Healthcare Management from the University of Miami.
