Summary
- I am a new kidney and pancreas transplant surgeon at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
I completed a transplant surgery fellowship at the University of Maryland. At the completion of fellowship I am certified to perform kidney, pancreas, and liver transplants as well as donor recovery of those organs. Additionally I have robust training in hepatobiliary surgery, minimally invasive living donation and robotic kidney transplantation.
I was previously a General Surgery resident at East Carolina University/Brody School of Medicine. I am a US Board-certified General Surgeon and was educated at Wake Forest School of Medicine, graduating in 2016. While at Wake Forest, I served as class president, was the MAA scholar for my class, won an AMA Physicians of Tomorrow Award, and was active with several groups. I started the medical school's gay-straight alliance and served as its first president, pushing to integrate LGBT-oriented curricula into our education. Prior to attending medical school I completed a PhD at the University of Louisville. While at UofL I served as graduate school president, volunteered with a number of organizations, won a graduate dean's citation, and raised money to start a graduate assistantship in the Office of LGBT services. The "Amber Carrier Student Ally Award" was created in my honor due to my advocacy.
