She is also an active member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Associate where she advocates for the advancement of the nurse practitioner through education, research and legislation. Ms. Costello has provided service in the educational setting as a clinical nursing instructor for psychiatric nurse practitioner students from Wilkes University in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Ms. Costello is the recipient of the Elmer Cupino, M.D., Psychiatric Nursing Award for excellence in psychiatric nursing and a recipient of the Pennsylvania Nurses' Association award for improvement in community health. She has researched the role of mental health providers in the school district with emphasis on education of psychiatric illnesses and reduction of school violence. She has worked with families providing education on domestic violence, coping skills, self-esteem and holistic care.
