Summary
- I’m incredibly proud to be the director of the Boston Children’s Maternal Fetal Care Center in affiliation with Brigham and Women’s Hospital. As an attending physician, I work to diagnose and treat complex, high-risk pregnancies.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked to develop fetal surgery across the globe. This has included clinical, research, and educational activities at national and international levels. I’ve assisted in developing fetal surgery centers at Stanford School of Medicine, and similar centers at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in Iran. I performed the first laparotomy assisted fetoscopic NTD repairs in Israel, South Africa, Argentina, and at the University of Southern California. Today, my clinical practice focuses on fetal surgery (in utero evaluation and repair of complicated fetal structural anomalies) and management of placenta accreta spectrum.
In addition to my surgical and clinical work, I take great pride in being able to train the next generation of fetal surgeons. I’ve served as a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine, with adjunct appointments in the departments of surgery and neurosurgery. I’ve also served as an honorary visiting professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Shiraz University of Medical Science distinguished visiting professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tehran University of Medical Sciences and ad appointment at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stanford University Medical Center. Before coming to Boston, I served as chief of the Fetal Therapy and Surgery Division, co-chair of the Fetal Center Steering Committee, co-director of the Perinatal Surgery Fellowship, and co-director of the Maternal Fetal Surgery Program in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Children’s Hospital. I currently serve as a Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School.
