- Alice P. Pentland, MD has served as Professor and Chair of Dermatology at the University of Rochester for 25 years. She received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Michigan. She specializes in the treatment of Bullous diseases, such as Pemphigus and Bullous Pemphigoid. Dr. Pentland has dedicated her career to creating a rich, diverse, interdisciplinary clinical and research environment within the department at the University of Rochester. Dr. Pentland’s research career has focused on prostaglandins in skin carcinogenesis, and bringing state-of-the-art technology to Dermatology. Her recent research utilizes Promis Measures and Threadnet to better understand patient outcomes and focus on processes of clinical care. Her research has been supported by funding from NIH, NSF, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Keck Foundation and Pharmaceutical Corporations. She is a member of the American Association of Clinical Investigators, Women’s Dermatologic Society, American Professors of Dermatology, American Dermatologic Association and the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Pentland is also long-standing member of the Society for Investigative Dermatology, where she served as President of the SID in 2006, and as Secretary-Treasurer from 2011-2017. She also served as Secretary Treasurer of the International Society of Investigative Dermatology from 2011 - 2018 and is now President of the American Professors of Dermatology. She has grown the Department of Dermatology five fold during her tenure as Chair. Dr. Pentland deeply appreciates the benefits of bringing together people with diverse skills and points of view to solve problems. She strongly believes that the world is made better by building bridges, supporting education and creating paths to health together.
