Summary
- Dr. Safayan started his medical training at Cebu Doctors' College of Medicine in Cebu, Philippines and completed his third and fourth year clerkships through Indiana University School of Medicine in 1985-86.
He completed his internship at Flushing Hospital and Medical Center, in Queens New York and his Internal Medicine Residency at Providence Hospital in Washington DC. Dr. Safayan has been in private practice since 1990 and was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine from 2000 to 2010.
As the co-founder of Restorative Health (RH), one of the first integrative/functional medicine practices in Washington, D.C., Dr. Safayan and his colleagues incorporate the best of conventional medical care with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) such as medical acupuncture, prolotherapy, allergy elimination technique, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, nutritional counseling, psychotherapy, myofascial therapy and PT.
Dr. Safayan's practice provides a comfortable environment and ample time for his patients' to express their concerns. He encourages patient involvement in developing an individualized health plan with a primary focus on life style modification and prevention.
In addition to his integrative practice, since 2010 Dr. Safayan has been an adjunct instructor at the Georgetown University CAM graduate program. Since 2000 Dr. Safayan has been a senior preceptor for the Helms Medical Institute (HMI) which provides the well known Medical Acupuncture Course for Physicians which trains over 200 physicians a year. Since 2009 Dr Safayan has served as a senior instructor for the ACUS foundation which has trained over 200 military physicians in the use of acupuncture for PTSD, TBI and other combat related injuries as well as treating our opioid crisis. Since 2008 Dr. Safayan has also been a senior clinical instructor for the HHP foundation which trains physicians nationally and internationally in the use of prolotherapy injections for pain.
