- Ali Khoynezhad, MD, PhD, FACS, FHRS is Director of Aortic and Arrhythmia Surgery at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center and Professor of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
An internationally recognized leader in complex open, hybrid and endovascular aortic surgery and atrial fibrillation procedures, Dr. Khoynezhad’s expertise encompasses the entire spectrum of cardiovascular sciences. As a board-certified cardiovascular surgeon, he performs all aspects of cardiac surgery, including valve-preserving root operations, aortic valve and root repair and replacement, less-invasive aortic arch reconstructions, thoracoabdominal and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, Cox-Maze operations, Thoracoscopic Maze procedures, and coronary artery bypass operation, including off-pump coronary bypass grafting.
Dr. Khoynezhad is an active industry consultant and physician trainer, having trained over 550 surgeons and interventionalists in endovascular aortic repair and atrial fibrillation procedures. He is national principal investigator for three trials including the first FDA-approved investigational device exemption for endovascular repair of the ascending aorta. Dr. Khoynezhad has been the principle investigator for 20 industry-sponsored clinical trials involving current and future generations of aortic stent grafts and cardiac devices.
Dr. Khoynezhad’s research findings have been published in over 245 peer-reviewed medical journals, abstracts and book chapters and his discoveries have resulted in inventions and patents in areas of aortic surgery, valve-in-valve TAVR for mechanical heart valves and percutaneous Endo-Bentall procedure. Dr. Khoynezhad serves on many medical committees and is a member of over 22 professional organizations. He has published several continuing education programs and has organized or served as faculty or director for more than 35 continuing education courses.
