  • Dr. Alexander Khoruts is a Gastroenterologist based in Minneapolis, MN. He received his MD from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1989 and later completed both his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology at the same institution. His research contributions are largely in the field of 'fecal microbiota transplantation', a term that he coined in 2011 along with a group of physicians in the field. His research produced several seminal works, including first documentation of donor microbiota engraftment in a patient (2010) and development of a standardized protocol for manufacturing donor microbiota for transplantation (published in 2012). His team developed multiple formulations of donor microbiota, including encapsulated freeze-dried preparation that is being tested in in clinical trials for a multitude of indications. These include inflammatory bowel diseases, optimization of cancer therapies, food allergies, hepatic encephalopathy, autism, and others.
