- Dr. Bick is a distinguished human geneticist and physician-scientist renowned for his groundbreaking work on large-scale genomics and translating these findings into clinical practice. He is an Associate Professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Director of the Division of Genetic Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Bick completed his MD and PhD degrees at Harvard Medical School. During his graduate studies, he made pivotal discoveries, including establishing the penetrance of Mendelian genetic mutations in the general population. During his postdoctoral research with Dr. Sek Kathiresan at Massachusetts General Hospital, he elucidated critical mechanisms of clonal hematopoiesis a new cause of aging diseases.
In 2020, Dr. Bick began his faculty career at Vanderbilt, where he continues his innovative research into the genetic basis of human disease, leveraging large-scale biobanks with electronic health record data and genetic sequencing from more than a million individuals. He recently led the NIH All of Us research program’s flagship genomics research manuscript published in Nature.
Dr. Bick's research has garnered widespread recognition. He has authored >125 manuscripts in top-tier journals. He is the principal investigator on over $25 million in grant funding and has received numerous accolades, including the NIH Director’s Early Independence Award, the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Award, the Pew-Stewart Scholar Award, and the American Federation for Aging Research’s New Investigator Award.
