• Alexa (Simon) Meara, MD, is a rheumatologist based in Columbus, OH. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at ECU Health Medical Center/East Carolina University and her fellowship in Rheumatology at Ohio State University Hospital. She graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2008. Dr. Meara has experience with treating people that have pre-existing rheumatic issues or develop new autoimmune syndromes due to cancer therapies. She has contributed to publications focusing on various aspects of immune-related conditions, particularly in the context of cancer treatment. Her research includes work on inflammatory immune-related arthritis, checkpoint inhibitor pneumonitis, and the role of artificial intelligence in detecting immune-related adverse events. She is the co-founder of the multi-disciplinary research consortium- Alliance for Prevention and Treatment of immune related events (ASPirE). She is breaking down the existing silos and bringing all the needed sub- specialties together as cancer becomes a chronic disease to improve patient quality of life and keep the cancer a distant memory.
