- Alan Garely, MD, is the Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Division Director of Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at Mount Sinai South Nassau. He is a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. His practice focuses on female pelvic floor disorders. This includes conditions such as uterine and vaginal prolapse, urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, complications from previous surgery, and pelvic fistulas. Dr. Garely is a nationally renowned surgeon for transvaginal mesh complications. He is a pioneer in minimally invasive pelvic surgical procedures and has developed the mini-lap abdominal surgery approach. After studying in Sweden, Dr. Garely was among the first surgeons to perform and teach the use of the TVT sling for incontinence. He has lectured and operated around the world.
Dr Garely has served on the Board of Directors for the American Urogynecologic Society. He is the Chair of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Advisory Council for the American College of Surgeons. He is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Garely is double board certified and is an oral board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in both general obstetrics and gynecology and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. He has published numerous papers and textbook chapters and is the author of vesicovaginal fistula's in UpToDate, the evidence-based clinical resource. Dr. Garely is active in teaching fellows, residents, and medical students and has received the APGO-CREOG national teaching award. He has been named a Castle-Connolly/New York Magazine Top Doctor and a New York Times Magazine Super Doctor. Dr. Garely is one of the few physicians in the country to receive best-in-class accreditation from the Surgical Review Corporation. He leads the Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology
