  • Dr. Ajay Maker is a surgical oncologist based in San Francisco, CA, with subspecialties in liver, bile duct, pancreas, melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma surgical oncology. He graduated from Yale School of Medicine and completed his surgery residency at Harvard's Brigham and Women's Hospital. He pursued a post-doctoral fellowship in tumor immunology and surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute, followed by a complex general surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Maker is considered an international expert in colorectal liver metastases, hepatic artery infusion, pancreatic cysts/cancer, gastrointestinal cancer surgery, melanoma surgery, and immunotherapy. He worked for over a decade in Chicago where he was a professor of surgery and immunology at the University of Illinois at Chicago before moving to San Francisco as Surgeon-in-Chief of the UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center and Chief of Surgical Oncology in the UCSF Department of Surgery. He has an active research laboratory funded by the NIH/NCI, has published hundreds of articles/abstracts/chapters in esteemed journals, delivers lectures and teaches worldwide, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and other esteemed surgical and scientific societies.
