Summary
- Dr. Ajay Bhatnagar is the founder of the newly formed Prostate Cancer Institute of Arizona (PCIA) as the only practice of its kind in the state of Arizona focusing exclusively on low dose rate prostate brachytherapy in the treatment of prostate cancer. With superior precision, Radiation Oncologist Dr. Ajay Bhatnagar performs the approximate one-hour procedure in surgery centers in Phoenix and offers virtual consultations to anyone interested in the treatment nationwide.
Practicing evidence-based medicine, Dr. Bhatnagar treats prostate cancer by implanting seeds in the prostate gland to kill cancer at its source while minimizing damage to the nearby healthy tissue. The procedure (also known as radioactive seed therapy) yields high cure rates with minimal side effects and has been shown to have the best rates of erectile function preservation.
Born in London, England, Dr. Bhatnagar received his BS in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude. He received his MD and MBA from the University of Pittsburgh as well as postgraduate medical training in Radiation Oncology. He has been in clinical practice for more than 20 years, performing prostate brachytherapy at his private practice in Casa Grande since 2007. He currently serves on the board of the Arizona Medical Association and was previously the president of the Arizona Radiology Society.
He is a consultant to the Arizona Medical Board and an active member of the American Brachytherapy Society. Through partnerships with urologists in Phoenix, Dr. Bhatnagar founded PCIA to take a multi-disciplinary team approach in driving radical change in the treatment of prostate cancer. By using the most advanced techniques in prostate cancer brachytherapy, while providing compassionate patient care, Dr. Ajay Bhatnagar delivers superior patient outcomes.
