Summary

  • I am the Neuro-Oncology Section Chief and Neurology Assistant Professor at University of Illinois at Chicago . In addition to my clinical duties in managing patients with primary brain tumors and neurological complications in cancer patients, I am working on growing the clinical trial portfolio and translational research program at University of Illinois. My main research interests are in understanding how glioma’s molecular makeup influences its sensitivity and resistance to different drug classes/agents as well as how they influence its radioresistance, radiosensitivity, radionecrosis, and recurrence. Additionally, I am working in identifying how circulating biomarkers in GBM patients influence disease outcome. I am also particularly interested in studying the unique molecular features of brain tumors in the underserved minority groups served by our institution and how these patient’s socioeconomic factors can influence their care. Additionally, I work closely with the University of Illinois Neurology residents in both the outpatient and inpatient settings and am always excited about educating and enhancing their neuro-oncology exposure during training.

My commitment to the field of Neuro-Oncology has only grown stronger over the years and will undoubtedly continue to do so as I witness first-hand the courage displayed by my patients and as I work on making a difference in their lives and the lives of all brain tumor patients. My short-term goals are to establish a robust brain tumor research lab at my institution that would help me achieve my long-term goals of bringing my bench work results to the patient’s bedside through various clinical trials.
