Summary
- Brooke Baggett, DO is a PGY-3 residency candidate in combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at East Carolina University. Her career interests include advocacy, education, treatment of underserved patient populations, adolescent medicine and the ethics of adolescent decision-making, as well as transition medicine and bridging the gap between pediatric and adult healthcare. During medical school, Brooke was the recipient of Distinguished Clinical Scholar awards in both Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, a recognition of her excellence in the two fields. She was also accepted into the Sigma Sigma Phi Osteopathic Service Fraternity on the basis of her outstanding academic performance and dedication to community service. Brooke has shown continued dedication to education and advocacy during residency as the American Academy of Pediatrics SOPT delegate for East Carolina University, attendance at three AAP national conferences, and active membership within the American College of Physicians. Her passion for transition medicine is evident through her ongoing development of a comprehensive lecture series for pediatric and internal medicine categorical residents at ECU which provides education on the importance of transition medicine and common chronic conditions that require thoughtful transition from pediatric to adult care. In pursuit of a more concrete and tangible approach to the complex ethical issues in adolescent medicine and adolescent decision-making, Brooke is currently a first year graduate student in the Harvard University Medical School Masters in Bioethics program. Brooke has also shown commitment to the treatment of underserved patients through her development of a quality improvement initiative to recognize and diminish barriers to optimizing glycemic control within her continuity clinic. Brooke will be pursuing fellowship in Endocrinology at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in 2023.
