Vascular Neurologist needed at LSU Health

Position Summary:
The Neurosurgery Department within the School of Medicine of the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans is seeking applicants for a Vascular Neurologist with subspecialty training in Interventional Neuroradiology. This physician will provide care at West Jefferson Medical Center and University Medical Center - New Orleans. Appointment will be at the academic rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor (non-tenure, clinical track) with rank determined by the candidate’s credentials and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
· Perform a full range of neuroendovascular procedures, including thrombectomies, aneurysm coiling, carotid artery stenting, AVM embolization, and other interventions for acute stroke, cerebral aneurysms, and vascular malformations.
· Collaboratively expanding an established, high-quality clinical service with colleagues in intensive care, neurology and neurosurgery.
· Providing clinical services for comprehensive stroke and cerebrovascular care, supervising Neurosurgery, Radiology, and Neurology residents and fellows.
· Participation in medical student education, resident selection and evaluation, as well as involvement in clinically relevant research and scholarship.
· Collaboration in developing a comprehensive stroke center transitioning from the center’s primary status.
· Participate in the training and education of neurology residents, fellows, and medical students, including hands-on procedural instruction, case reviews, and teaching.
· Share in the neuro-interventional call schedule, providing 24/7 coverage for acute stroke and other neurovascular emergencies.
· Contribute to protocol development and implementation of evidence-based practices for stroke care and neuro-interventional procedures.
Qualifications:
· MD or equivalent
· Completed fellowship training in Interventional Neurology or Neurointerventional Radiology or Neuroendovascular Surgery (2 years) AND
· Completed an Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited residency in Neurology
AND
· Completed an ACGME fellowship in Vascular/Stroke Neurology (1 year) or ACGME / United Council on Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS) fellowship in Neurocritical Care (2 years)
AND
· Be Board certified in Neurology; be Board certified or Board eligible (or equivalent) for Vascular/Stroke Neurology or Neurocritical Care
Preferred Qualifications:
· A record of academic productivity, including peer-reviewed publications, presentations at national conferences, or involvement in clinical trials.
· Expertise in neuroendovascular procedures and a commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care.
· Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
· Experience in medical education, curriculum development, or program leadership.
· Interest or experience in health services research, outcomes research, or the development of innovative stroke care protocols.
