Job Description:
The University of Toledo Physicians is seeking a Physician Assistant to work within the Department of Surgery within the Trauma Unit. The PA will work autonomously and in collaboration with the Physicians within a Standard Care Arrangement (SCA) to diagnose, treat, and manage individuals or populations of patients. APPs can serve as healthcare resource providers, patient advocates and interdisciplinary consultants with the Health Care Team.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates clinical competency and accountability in care for patients as identified in unit's Scope of Care
- Maintains competency in performing clinical practice for patients in stages of the life cycle appropriate to specialty
- Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies
- Writes prescriptions; initiates requests and/or performs routine laboratory, radiology, and diagnostic studies as indicated
- Acts as mentor/role model for staff as well as a resource person for nurses, medical assistants, and/or ancillary staff
- Conducts/participates in divisional/institutional research as opportunities arise
- Practices within normal standards specific to the specialty of Physician Assistants and as identified in the Revised Code and Ohio Administrative Code
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Master’s degree in an appropriate field

License and/or Certification:
- State of Ohio Licensure-Physician Assistant
- National Certification as a Physician Assistant
- BLS Certified
- COA from the Ohio State Medical Board to practice as a Physician Assistant
- Eligible to obtain and/or maintain a Certificate to Prescribe/DEA
Skills: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work nights. This schedule consists of 7 on 7 off
- Tolerate a busy environment that requires constant interaction with patients, employees, students, residents, and physicians.
- Requires prolonged walking and standing. Occasional lifting of patients sometimes over 200 pounds. Occasional carrying of items weighing up to 30 pounds is required.
- Requires the ability to operate various types of office equipment, including but not limited to: personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones
