Position Summary: 

The LSU Health Sciences Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in New Orleans is seeking applicants for a Perinatologist at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor (clinical, non-tenure track) to join our growing Maternal Fetal Medicine division.

The MFM Division serves as a resource and referral unit for the Greater New Orleans metropolitan area and beyond. The division is based in 5 hospitals in the New Orleans area and also serves as the region’s primary academic MFM unit. The division is actively involved in the education of 24 residents and 200 medical students as they rotate through the Obstetrical service. Our primary ambulatory site, Touro Infirmary Perinatal Center, is AIUM certified. The MFM division works in multidisciplinary fashion with our affiliated Children’s Hospital New Orleans pediatric subspecialty divisions and provides tertiary referral programing within the Louisiana and gulf coast region, for pregnancies with complex fetal and maternal co-morbidities. Our primary obstetric teaching hospital, Touro Infirmary, is a 360 bed facility with > 2500 deliveries per year that has the full complement of in-house Obstetric Anesthesia and ICU support to provide tertiary maternal critical care programming.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prenatal diagnosis, consultative and antenatal care services and ultrasound.
  • Strong commitment to teaching is required in order to provide outstanding instruction to medical students and residents in various clinical venues.
  • Clinical and population-based research opportunities. 
  • Provide care for high-risk pregnancies, including prenatal diagnosis, genetic counseling, fetal therapy, and management of maternal complications
  • Perform and interpret advanced OB imaging, including ultrasounds, fetal echocardiography, and procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.
  • Collaborate with other departments/divisions.
  • Participate in the education and training of ObGyn residents/medical students through clinical supervision, surgical instruction, and teaching.
  • Contribute to departmental initiatives- quality improvement, patient safety, and development of evidence-based clinical protocols.
  • Share in the MFM on-call rotation, providing consultation and care for high-risk pregnancies.

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree (or equivalent)
  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility (or equivalent) in Maternal Fetal Medicine.
  • Board Certification in OBGYN.
  • Licensed to practice Medicine in Louisiana before hire date.
  • Completion of an accredited OB/GYN residency program.
  • Completion of an accredited MFM fellowship program.
