Job Summary:

The Department of Surgery at The University of Wisconsin is recruiting an exceptional surgeon-scientist to serve as the Director of The Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR). WiSOR is our nationally leading health services research (HSR) center that is committed to the mission of improving the quality, safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of surgical care through research and innovation. We are looking for candidates with a track record of clinical excellence and academic contributions as demonstrated through training and/or practice experience. WiSOR is an interdisciplinary, multi-investigator research program that supports a wide variety of health services and outcomes-focused research, including comparative effectiveness research, qualitative research (particularly involving patient-provider interactions), performance and safety in surgical care, health care disparities, patterns of care, quality of life, and decision analysis. The UW Department of Surgery consists of more than 160 faculty across eleven specialty divisions, performing more than 25,000 operations annually. The Department also trains more than 70 residents and fellows and is consistently ranked amongst the top surgery programs with extramural research funding, currently 12th in the nation according to Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The Department's Office of Clinical Research provides robust support for Clinical Trials as well regulatory support for research, and the grants management team provides comprehensive pre-award to post- award support. The Surgical Collaborative of Wisconsin also provides access to a network of surgeons throughout the state and this platform provides opportunities for collaborative quality improvement that improves the care of surgical patients throughout the state and region.

Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited surgical residency program is required by the start date. Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the start date of position.

MD, DO, or equivalent

PhD in Health Outcomes Research or another closely related field by appointment start date

Preferred
Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or another closely related field by appointment start date

Candidate is required to have or be eligible for a Wisconsin medical license by the appointment start date
