    University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine is searching for an experienced Emergency Medicine physician leader to serve as the inaugural Emergency Medicine Residency Program Director at its growing academic institution in Tyler, TX- 90 mi from Dallas.

     

    This is an opportunity to spearhead the development, approval, and implementation of an Emergency Medicine Residency Program. The incoming Program Director will be integral to assisting the UT Tyler School of Medicine and UT Health East Texas (9 facilities), including the region's only Level I Trauma Center, in its mission of cultivating a new generation of physicians prepared to improve healthcare outcomes and enhance the quality of life in East Texas.

     

    The main responsibilities of the Program Director will include: 

    • Lead and Direct the Emergency Medicine Accreditation process
    • Program Administration
    • Resident Recruitment/Selection and Supervision
    • Educational Oversight to ensure curriculum compliance meets accreditation standards
    • Compliance and Reporting: to ensure ACGME and other governing bodies' requirements are met 

    Position Highlights:

    • Advanced Care: Primary location is UT Health North Campus Tyler and secondary is UT Health Tyler, a 502-bed tertiary facility that is home to a Comprehensive Stroke Center, and the hub for UT Health East Texas EMS and AIR 1.
    • 15 Emergency Medicine Physicians and 7 Advanced Practice Providers.
    • 36 ED beds, including three exam rooms, currently staffed at 24 (12 holding beds).
    • Administrative Time: At least 50% of the Program Director's time will be administrative time.
    • Clinical Time: 4-6 shifts/month (12 hour shifts and competitive hourly rate)
    • Advanced Simulation Center w/ dedicated staff
    • EMR: Epic

     

    Required Certifications/Experience:

    • MD or DO, with board certification by ABEM or AOBEM
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience as PD, APD, or core faculty
